Pet Digital Radiology
Digital x-rays assist in diagnosing illness & injury.
What are radiographs?
Radiographs, or x-rays, are one of the most common and useful diagnostic tools in veterinary medicine. They allow us to view the shape, size, and position of your pet’s internal organs. At Middleton Veterinary Hospital, we use digital radiology to diagnose illness and injury in pets. They can capture digital images of both the body and teeth. This technology allows us to diagnose more quickly and provides sharper, more detailed images than traditional x-rays.
What are radiographs used for?
We use radiographs to help detect fractures, arthritis, tumors, and the presence of foreign bodies. They are also useful in evaluating the heart, lungs, and abdominal organs such as the liver, kidneys, and bladder. Radiographs may be recommended when your pet is showing signs of limping, breathing issues, gastrointestinal distress, or unexplained pain. They're also used to monitor chronic conditions and guide treatment plans. Because x-rays are noninvasive and can often be performed without sedation, they’re a practical first step in evaluating many health concerns. In some cases, radiographs can help us avoid more invasive diagnostics and get answers quickly, helping your pet feel better, faster.
There are multiple benefits to choosing digital x-ray over conventional x-ray including:
- Images are more accurate and quicker to obtain
- Retakes are seldom required which limits radiation exposure
- Imaging results can be sent to other veterinarians and radiologists with ease
- Records can be stored electronically, so they won’t get damaged or lost
Using digital x-rays lets us provide our patients with superior care and supports our goal of practicing progressive, high quality medicine.
